Email From Katherine Harris

Dear Supporter,

I would like to take a moment to share with you some facts concerning the Senate race between Bill Nelson and me.

Each weekend, as I travel throughout our extraordinary state, I am refreshed and encouraged by the overwhelming support I have encountered. Along the way, I have spoken with many committed and civic-minded individuals who are justifiably upset with Bill Nelson's voting record. Honestly, so am I!

It is disingenuous to vote with ultra-liberal politicians like Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, and at the same time, masquerade as a moderate during the election cycle back home.
Floridians deserve a leader that will proudly stand up and defend your values in Washington. Time and time again, I have seen progress stymied and needed reforms shelved because of partisan politics and apathy toward fundamental principles. Should I be blessed with the opportunity to serve the people of Florida in the United States Senate, I promise to fight for the common-sense values that have made our country strong and prosperous.

You Can Count On Me...

To defend marriage, as the union between one man and one woman
To secure our borders
To abolish the death tax
To support pro-growth, pro-family tax policies
To preserve the Second Amendment (Rated "A" by the NRA - Bill Nelson is rated "F")
To oppose the use of eminent domain by public bodies for the benefit of private entities
To advocate for the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003
To stand against amnesty for illegal immigrants
To reform our onerous tax code
To give Florida the power to decide when and where off-shore drilling could occur
...the incumbent, Bill Nelson, has voted against or waffled on every one of these issues which are crucial to your future.

The time is now, and the issues at stake could not be more important.

Please help me to defeat liberal Senator Bill Nelson, and stand up for the principles I believe will provide Florida a brighter future.

At this critical juncture, any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. As you know, Election Day is right around the corner. In fact, today marks the end of the second FEC fund-raising period, so a generous financial contribution TODAY would be very helpful. To make your donation, please go to this link and make a campaign contribution online, to Friends of Katherine Harris. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Katherine Harris

5-3 US Supreme Court Strikes Again

Five to Three. Roberts recusing himself.

Today the leftists on the US Supreme court once again cited "International Law" and declared that military tribunals violate US military law and the Geneva conventions. The Court said that the Bush Administration could continue to hold the Guantanamo detainees but world pressure to shut it down has been mounting and the SC leftists could possibly be sidestepping the issue.

This decision should also accelerate a new Geneva convention but in this modern, multi-culti world any such attempt will be one of the most insane circuses in history.

I am quite sure that US forces will be capturing a lot fewer battlefield combatants.

Remember this decision before you throw your vote away on a third-party candidate or if you want to sit at home in protest.

With Friends Like This ...

HA! HA, HA!!!!! HA!!! ... oh, oh - my stomach hurts from laughing so much!

Why is this picture funny? It's two Saudi women attending a news conference for the U.N. Commission on human rights!

“Wealthy Saudi financiers and charities have funded terrorist organizations and causes that support terrorism and the ideology that fuels the terrorists' agenda. Even today, we believe that Saudi donors may still be a significant source of terrorist financing, including for the insurgency in Iraq. Saudi Arabia-based and funded organizations remain a key source for the promotion of ideologies used by terrorists and violent extremists around the world to justify their hate-filled agenda.”

* Religious freedom does not exist in Saudi Arabia…. Islam is Saudi Arabia's official religion, and all citizens are required by law to be Muslims. ...

* Academic freedom is restricted in Saudi Arabia, and informers monitor classrooms for compliance with limits on curricula, such as a ban on teaching Western philosophy and religions other than Islam...

*Saudi citizens do not enjoy freedom of association and assembly...

* The judiciary lacks independence from the monarchy. The king appoints all judges on the recommendation of the Supreme Judicial Council, and the monarchy serves as the highest court of appeal. The rule of law is regularly flouted by the Saudi regime…. Secret trials are common, and political opponents of the regime are often detained without charge and held for indefinite periods of time. Allegations of torture by police and prison officials are frequent, though access to prisoners by independent human rights and legal organizations is strictly limited.

*In 2004, a number of democracy advocates in the kingdom mounted a petition campaign in favor of reforms. In March, the government arrested 13 reformers who had called for establishing a constitutional monarchy and holding parliamentary elections. Three - Ali al-Doumani, Dr. Matrouk al-Faleh, and Dr. Abdullah al-Hamed - were tried for creating political instability after refusing to sign a document renouncing their reform efforts. The trial got off to a rocky start in August, when the judge suspended initial hearings after hundreds of supporters of the defendants rallied outside the courtroom.

*Saudi Arabia formally abolished slavery in 1962 – a tad late, we think -- but Saudi citizens, with government help, continue hold people to forcible and indefinite service. In 2003, reports the Little Green Footballs blog, a Saudi man published a want ad offering to trade his 1991 Dodge for a female slave from Sri-Lanka. Here is an excerpt from a detailed piece by Joel Mowbray in the Feb. 24, 2003 issue of National Review:

"As part of its massive PR offensive, the House of Saud is trying to convince the world that its treatment of women is improving. But a first-hand witness would see a far different reality: women who are literally locked inside homes, paid little or nothing as domestic servants, worked up to 20 hours per day, and verbally and physically abused. This sad state of affairs exists not just in Saudi Arabia, but in Saudi homes right here in the United States. But there are people who know all about it, and even allow the practice to continue unabated on American soil: the U.S. State Department. Saudi abuse of domestics occasionally makes news in the Western press—but only when it happens outside of the kingdom."

How Warren Buffet's "Kindness" Kills!

Warren Buffett: Killing with Kindness

The press is gushing over Warren Buffett's announcement that he and his wife will give the lion's share of their immense wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A sizable chunk will also be given to foundations run by Buffett's wife and children. Here at FRC we have long memories. Consequently, we suggest one charitable project the Buffetts' have a moral obligation to fund. Back in the 1990s, the Buffett Foundation gave $2-3 million dollars to fund research and clinical trials needed to bring RU-486, the abortion pill, to market. Thanks to the Buffetts, and other promoters of abortion for population control, the drug was fast-tracked and approved under an order from President Clinton. Since then, approximately 500,000 American babies have been killed with RU-486. There has also been some "collateral damage" as they decreased the surplus population. At least, six American women have been killed following RU-486 use, and three of those women left children who are now motherless. Buffett's billions have the potential to do damage like this on a global scale. His foundation over the years has given millions to the likes of Planned Parenthood, Pathfinder International, the Population Council, and more besides. It has been reported that Buffett and Gates visited communist China in 1995 and made sure to visit a "family planning" clinic along the Yangtze. China's one-child policy has had a history of coercion, which went unremarked on the Buffett-Gates tour. It would be tragic if the new funds flowing into the Gates Foundation further today's assaults on the sanctity of human life, especially when the population bomb that is actually detonating is the one whose ideological fragments are wrecking Europe's fertility and contributed to so much pessimism about the Continent's future.

"Was the Sun-Sentinel aware of the fact that CAIR, since its inception in 1994, had lost four of its officials, all linked to al-Qaeda and/or Hamas, all of which who’ve been either convicted or deported for their crimes? Or that one of its national advisory board members, Siraj Wahhaj, found his name placed on the list of potential co-conspirators to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center?"

The U.N. And It's Pals - Syria, Cuba, Rwanda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone

"The United Nations’ conference on small arms, which starts today, has an admirable enough goal: to save lives. Some conference attendees claim that guns used in armed conflicts cause 300,000 deaths world-wide every year. The “international community’s” solution? Prevent rebels from getting guns with rules that include a registry of all small arms to enable tracing them and to ensure that weapons sales can be limited to governments.

That is an understandable “solution” for governments that don’t trust their citizens. But it also represents a dangerous disregard for their citizens’ safety and freedom."

News Flash! - U.N. Attacks U.S.!

Murtha Goes Too Far - What A Surprise - NOT!

"American presence in Iraq is more dangerous to world peace than nuclear threats from North Korea or Iran" - U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.

... Hey! You guys from Liberalvannia, you have a problem ...

Iran is watching US Reaction to North Korea

Iran is stalling. They claim they need until August to respond to the nuclear incentives offered June 6 by the United States, Britain, China, France, Russia and Germany.

They need time alright. Just a little more time. We've heard one lame excuse and threat after the other for over a year now while they have forged ahead with their nuclear program. They figure if they stall long enough, any tender alliances will be broken. Divide and Conquer; Break up the western coalition so that it will be impotent to act.

They figure that given enough time, George Bush will be so weak popularity-wise, that he will no longer present a threat to their nuclear plans. If they can stall long enough maybe they will get a more "cooperative" man in the Whitehouse.

They also want to see how the Korean business to plays out. We could make it clear to the Mullahs that unless they suspend all nuclear programs, the play (for them) ends in a very bad way. But do they care?

They threaten and bluster much like Kim Jong-il. If crazy men frighten meek westerners imagine what crazy men with nukes can do.

Meanwhile, they are building their nuclear detterent so that they can destroy Israel and through ongoing terror acts drive the infidels out of Muslim lands.

All of this will earn them the undying respect and admiration of the new Muslim caliphate.

Adding Up the Pieces

From Louis Freeh's May 20, 2006 WSJ column about the FBI's investigation into the Khobar Towers bombing:

”Over the course of our investigation the evidence became clear that while the attack was staged by Saudi Hezbollah members, the entire operation was planned, funded and coordinated by Iran's security services, the IRGC and MOIS, acting on orders from the highest levels of the regime in Tehran.”

From Uzi Rubins analysis of Iranian missle capability The Global Range of Iran's Ballistic Missle Program, June 20, 2006, Jerusalem Issue Briefs:
”Iran's political leadership is now aiming toward global power projection in the name of Islam, demanding recognition that Islam comprises 25 percent of humanity and should occupy its rightful place in decision-making in world affairs. Statements like this are not about self-defense.
Iran is Seeking to Deter the United States

What is the rationale behind the Iranian missile program? Prior to 1991 and the first Gulf War, the main threat to Iran was Saddam Hussein's Iraq. The Iranians began developing their missile program under fire when Saddam Hussein launched missiles at them and they had nothing to respond with except for a few Scud-Bs that they got from Libya, the only country that supported Iran.

Since 1991, the United States has replaced Iraq as threat number one for Iran. The Iranian military's reference threat scenario is a massive U.S. military action against Iran, aided by U.S. allies in the region including the Gulf States and Israel, which they see as an outpost of the United States.
The Iranians are realists. They don't aim to win a set piece battle against the United States. They know it's impossible. Their policy is to deter the United States and its allies by threatening a war that will cause such damage at such a price that this option will become unacceptable to the United States. With this perspective, they are not focusing their efforts on renovating their quite large armed forces. Rather, they are investing very smartly in deterrence enhancers and force multipliers. Replacing obsolete equipment has secondary priority.”

From Caroline Glick's June 26, 2006 column North Korea and Iran:
”Iran campaigns against Israel, the US and the EU. From Teheran's perspective, if it can place the world's undivided attention on its war against Israel, it will be able to deter the US and Europe from contending with the fact that it is also working to undermine their security. Teheran has to this end worked assiduously to hide the fact that its Shihab ballistic missile program is directed mainly against Europe and the US, and not against Israel.”

Iran is seeking a Deterrent

We are playing a losing game with the Iranians. While developing nuclear energy capability, they have played the IAEA, the EU, the UN are now possibly the Bush administration for fools. They claim they are developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and upgrading their missle technology for defensive purposes only.

Sure they can make that claim (with their fingers crossed.) As the article points out, Iran is developing a detterent to the United States threat. Through their various terrorist proxies such as Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas, they will continue in their stated goal of destroying Israel. With a nuclear deterrent, they figure we'll be reduced to sputtering protestations. Unless George Bush is made of very stout material, we will be.

Time is running out.

Freedom For The Enemy, Not Our Soldiers - And The Bush Administration Seems To Agree

"In recent years the ranks of alleged victims championed by civil libertarians on the political Left have swollen to include everyone from the terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay, to anti-American radicals, to environmentalist ultras and illegal immigrants. But there’s at least one group ineligible for victim status under the legal Left’s guidelines: American troops. "

Why Is The "Left" Silent On The Brutal Murders Of These Two Wonderful Soldiers?

"There is no question that these two murdered soldiers, and all others lost in Iraq and elsewhere in the world, are to be mourned. Both Kristian Menchaca and Tom Tucker left behind families, friends, and other loved ones. Given that fact, and the fact that, due to an overriding love of America and belief in its ideals, they volunteered to serve their country even though they fully understood that they might one day have to make this ultimate sacrifice, it is supremely important—even necessary—that, along with a loving family, they leave behind a grateful nation."

It's an Islamic Jihad, Stupid.

It's an Islamic jihad, stupid
By Diana West

Jun 19, 2006

Discussing the "war on terror" has been endlessly awkward. Terror -- like a blitzkrieg, sneak-attack or disinformation -- is a tactic, not an enemy. But in our politically-correct era, we dwell on the tactic, never defining the enemy. Drop 500-pound bombs on his head if we must -- and we must -- but don't describe him as an Islamic jihadist in the age-old tradition of Islamic jihadis going back to Muhammad. Such historical precision might be hurtful and insensitive, and we wouldn't want that.

The North American Union - Goodbye U.S.A.

"Secretly, the Bush administration is pursuing a policy to expand NAFTA politically, setting the stage for a North American Union designed to encompass the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. What the Bush administration truly wants is the free, unimpeded movement of people across open borders with Mexico and Canada.President Bush intends to abrogate U.S. sovereignty to the North American Union, a new economic and political entity which the President is quietly forming, much as the European Union has formed."

Keeping Up The Good Work!

"THE DEATH OF ZARQAWI and the completion of the new Iraqi government have created a moment of opportunity for President Bush in Iraq. If the United States acts quickly to take control of lawless areas, improves security throughout the country, and wins a series of tangible victories, it might break the back of the insurgency. If we return to "business as usual" and the counterproductive Washington obsession with troop withdrawals, the moment will be lost. In fact, the quickest and only path to responsible troop withdrawals is visible progress toward victory over the insurgency and security in Iraq."

... this fellow recommends what many have recommended; when we clear out the insurgents, we hold and rebuild the town ... so far, we have left when the fighting's over ... this will take many more troops than we have in Iraq right now

Fascinating Reading and Food for Thought

On September 19, 2003 Richard Fernandez (the Belmont Club)published an essay entitled "The Three Conjectures."

Conjecture 1: Terrorism has lowered the nuclear threshold
"...the nuclear threshold against a terrorism may be crossed once they get the capability to attack with weapons of mass destruction. Unlike the old early warning systems, designed to gauge Soviet intent, the intelligence systems of the War on Terror are meant to measure capability. The relevant Cold War question was 'do they intend to use the Bomb?'. In the War on Terror, the relevant question is simply 'do they have the Bomb?' This puts the nuclear threshold very low."

Conjecture 2: Attaining WMDs will destroy Islam
The so-called strengths of Islamic terrorism: fanatical intent; lack of a centralized leadership; absence of a final authority and cellular structure guarantee uncontrollable escalation once the nuclear threshold is crossed. Therefore the 'rational' American response to the initiation of terrorist WMD attack would be all out retaliation from the outset."

He goes on to add that even if the US did not annihilate the Islamic world, the Islamists would turn on and destroy each other.

Conjecture 3: The War on Terror is the 'Golden Hour' -- the final chance
It is supremely ironic that the survival of the Islamic world should hinge on an American victory in the War on Terror, the last chance to prevent that terrible day in which all the decisions will have already been made for us. That effort really consists of two separate aspects: a campaign to destroy the locus of militant Islam and prevent their acquisition of WMDs; and an attempt to awaken the world to the urgency of the threat. While American arms have proven irresistible, much of Europe, as well as moderates in the Islamic world, remain blind to the danger and indeed increase it. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad recently "told an international conference of young Muslim leaders ... (that) ... Muslims must acquire skills and technology so they can create modern weapons and strike fear into the hearts of our enemies". Fecklessness and gunpowder are a lethal combination. The terrible ifs accumulate.

According to these three conjectures, Islam could very well be currently "going out in a blaze of glory."

We'll see.

Waging War in a Post-Modern World

Over at the Belmont Club, Wretchard has a post,The Belmont Club: Pedicaris Alive or Raisuli Dead discussing the Left's use of the "torture" calumny as regards the recent killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

In our 21st century post-modern society there is a large segment of anti-American, anti-capitalist thinkers. Most of Europe, Canada and a sizable minority of Americans think this way. The conundrum is how to wage war against a threatening enemy in spite of the "loyal" opposition. Had the Islamic fundamentalists been more successful in their barbaric atrocities post 9/11, the task would be less encumbered by the relativistic "thinkers."

Pierre Legrand's insight into the WWII survival mentality in the face of an unknown outcome is excellent but I would liken our current situation to that of our country prior to Pearl Harbor. For too many, 9/11 was not the wake-up call and I fear that nothing short of a truly devastating nuclear attack will silence the left. Others have said that not even such a disaster would quiet the looney left. Nothing mobilises the warrior instinct like the sound of women wailing over their dead children. 9/11 awakened many people who previously were blissfully unaware of the gathering threat. Succeeding disasters will convert even more but mostly likely nothing short of a nuclear strike will unite America as it was after Pearl Harbor.

Until the worst comes, we will be ham-strung by our secular, moral relativists whose morality is based on the false religion of humanism which never fails to disappoint it's adherents.

The left displays their true character whenever they raise the issue of torture. We can debate them, we can ignore them, but we must not appease them. The issue of torture is a tar-baby which we must avoid and so far, the Bush administration has handled the issue well. We must not hand our critics the rope of an International Criminal Court or expanded UN powers or in any way relinquish soverignty to a foreign power. To do so, would not only tie our hands in the terror war but would also ultimately be used as a noose around our necks.

Bill Bennett - A Conservative

"The great historian David McCullough recently warned that we are raising generation after generation of young Americans, who are historically illiterate and that consequently we are running a terrible risk for this country. "You could have amnesia of a society, which is as detrimental as amnesia of an individual," McCullough opined."

... also,

Commenting on President Bush's inaugural address lightning bolt that "it is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements . . . with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world," Bennett says it's a matter of priorities.
"This is fine, but let's get this war on terror completed, done, finished," he instructs. "It is the first, second and third order of business. Then we can build democracies."

Iran - For the Record

It's June 1, 2006. The dispute with Iran over nuclear energy continues. Iran has recently been pressing for talks with the United States which has declined. Today, the U.S. agreed to multilateral talks with Iran but only if Iran agrees to suspend it's nuclear program.

Iran has bought another 3 or four months of research and development while the bureaucrats go about their charades.
