Okay Mr. Murtha, we'll raise you...

.... and call. Let's see 'em.

An AP report:

WASHINGTON - House Republicans, seeing an opportunity, maneuvered for a quick vote and swift rejection Friday of a Democratic lawmaker's call for an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq.

"We want to make sure that we support our troops that are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill. "We will not retreat."

Murtha offered a resolution that would force the president to withdraw the nearly 160,000 troops in Iraq "at the earliest practicable date." It would establish a quick-reaction force and a nearby presence of Marines in the region.
House Republicans planned to put to a vote _ and reject _ their own resolution that simply says: "It is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately."

It's time to stand up and be counted, Gentlemen.

Update: The vote was 403-3 against immediate withdrawal.

He wants to withdraw immediately but establish a quick reaction force in an over-the-horizon position.

Marines stationed on aircraft carriers? Sounds like the way Clinton waged war.

One day their say we don't have enough troops in country and the next day we have to "get out now."

Democrats have truly become the enemy of the people! One can disagree with the "conduct" of the War on Terror and give advice on how to make it more successful, but the Demon-rats have crossed the line into anti-American, Terrorist loving TREASON! We need to do some house-cleaning here at home!

At one point in the emotional debate, Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio, told of a phone call she received from a Marine colonel.

"He asked me to send Congress a message — stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message — that cowards cut and run, Marines never do," Schmidt said. Murtha is a 37-year Marine veteran.

Democrats booed and shouted her down — causing the House to come to a standstill.

Democrats and their apologists are spinning the story that Murtha did not call for "immediate withdrawal" but Fox News reported,

"The traditionally hawkish Murtha has introduced a resolution in Congress that would require Bush to order the withdrawal of all 153,000 troops; he thinks they can be out of Iraq within six months."

I think that would require withdrawal to begin immediately.
