Diane Rehm's guest today was NATO General James Jones, Supreme Allied Commander Europe. General Jones said that about 15,000 NATO troops are set to take over operations in the troubled southern Afghanistan. Ms. Rehm, a liberal, was quick to assume that NATO was required in Afghanistan so that the US troops could be moved to Iraq. The General responded that the NATO troops will free up US troops for the eastern part of the country bordering the wild tribal lands of Pakistan.
I wanted to call in and speak to the General to ask him his thoughts about the long term strategic and tactical benefits of NATO troops serving in Afghanistan. Like Diane Rehm, I think there are reasons why NATO is sending additional troops.
Maybe this is one of them.

Wow! ...good digging Whit.
Something tells me that the action in Afghanistan is just starting.
Is our "policy" of civilizing Muslims really going to work?
...right now I don't think so...
