He's Here, He's There, He's Everywhere

The AP headline trumpets Bill Clinton to Speak at Climate Conference

In surprise visit, former President Clinton will speak at the annual U.N. climate conference Friday, final day of a contentious two-week meeting, the United Nations confirmed.
Gee, a surprise visit! How nice. Well, we should have known. Being an egocentric, publicity hound, the man can't resist an opportunity to outshine everyone else in the room.

Bush administration envoys here were said to be displeased at Thursday's news of the unusual appearance _ of an ex-president at a critical point in backroom negotiations involving the U.S. delegation.
I wonder if Bill Clinton thinks back to the days when Dhimmi Carter kept popping up around the world to intervene in Clinton administration foreign policy dust-ups. I expect him to be on good behaviour this time . I would be very surprised if he does anything to undermine Bush. On the other hand, I am not surprised at AP for including the following bit of misdirection:

As president, Clinton championed the 1997 Kyoto Protocol to fight global warming, an international agreement requiring reductions in "greenhouse-gas" emissions by major industrialized nations. Soon after he succeeded Clinton, President Bush formally renounced the Kyoto accord, saying it would harm the U.S. economy.

So Clinton "championed" the Protocol but Bush renounced it. Bush can't get a break from these people. Clinton didn't actually champion it, Al Gore did. Bill Clinton was still President when the US Senate saw it and said "No way," and you hardly heard a word about it from President Clinton after that.

This is the interesting part of the article:

Clinton, who was invited here by the City of Montreal, will speak in an unofficial context in the main conference hall Friday afternoon, said U.N. conference spokesman John Hay.

A city spokesman said the former president will be representing the William J. Clinton Foundation, which operates the Clinton Global Initiative, a program focusing on climate change as a business opportunity, The Canadian Press reported.

With the William J. Clinton this and the William J. Clinton that, it reminds me of the Trump this and the Trump that. (Unlike Duke Cunningham, Clinton figures he's still got a good name.)

I think Clinton wrangled an invitation and will use the appearance to get publicity for his enterprise the 'Clinton Global Initiative.' I wonder how the watermelons (enviro communists) at the conference will react to Clinton using their party to promote his business. I also wonder how Al Gore will react. I imagine he'll be a little green himself.

There are so many myths about the Clinton presidency -- his championing of the Kyoto Protocol being one.

I wish he'd learn to behave with the dignity befitting former presidents.

Obviously, he didn't learn anything from hanging out with Bush 41 during their humanitarian missions.

It's as if Clinton didn't get the memo that he's no longer president.
