New Coin Makes Its Debut

You may remember about a year ago, a story came out about a new gold-colored dollar coin to be minted. The coins made good press because the words, "E Pluribus Unum" and "In God We Trust" were removed from the coin face and placed along the smooth rim edge of the coin, as to be almost unnoticeable.

Well, the coins are starting to show up finally and they are the cheapest feeling coins I've ever seen and held. They very much remind one of those light weight coins you sometimes see from the Caribbean, made of cheap metals.

And yes, the words along the rim are barely legible, the rim is smooth and looks badly machined. The overall impression of the piece is; "we made it as cheap as possible!"

Here's a couple of scans of the coin:

Sorry I couldn't get any "tighter" on them. You'll see them in person soon enough, if you haven't already. You might want to go back and read the story. It's apparent to me that the intent behind this new coin is to hide the famous words. In order to read; E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and the year 2007, I had to use a magnifying glass.
Thanks again, Senor Bush!
