The 2008 Election Has Begun - In Ernest!

... with Bush lacking credibility and the public having a general mistrust of him, the next two years will be a "bash the slimy Republicans into submission fest". And, since they're the "party" that loves to "lay down and die", accomodate, and capitulate; they'll oblige ...

Senate Democrats Demand Classified Data

"Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, D-Vt., who will chair the Senate Judiciary Committee starting in January has asked the Justice Department to release two newly acknowledged documents, which set U.S. policy on how terrorism suspects are detained and interrogated. The existence of the documents has been confirmed by the CIA. "

"The first document sought is a directive President Bush signed giving the CIA authority to establish detention facilities outside the United States. It also outlines interrogation methods that may be used against detainees. The second is a 2002 memo from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel to the CIA’s general counsel regarding interrogation methods that the CIA was empowered to employ against detained al-Qaida leaders."

The Democrats should be very careful in what they ask for; they just might get it.

If Senator Leahy "feels" the American public will be moved to compassionate outrage by the administration's detainee imprisonment and interrogation policies, he is going to find his party's rear-end in a buzz saw.

You may be exactly right, Allen. The American people have been clear on fighting the W.O.T. But, if the Repubs roll over and submit, the people will "spit" in disgust.

The "detainee/interrogation question" will be just one of the items brought up by the Dems. How does that go? Tell a lie often enough, etc...

Like you, though, I hope it all back-fires on them!

The MSM and Democrats have seiously misread American response to both detention and interrogation of Islamist prisoners. The average American is more horrified at the thought of an American MP handing a jihadi his personal Quran while wearing white gloves, than the thought of the MP turning the asshole upside down and waterboarding him. The Democrats, overplaying there hand may get their own waterboarding in 2008.

I agree with most you said, Deuce, but no, the average American is in love with political correctness. The "MP in white gloves" is a good thing to them.

Again, I hope I'm proved wrong ...
