President Bush appointed Prager in August to fill the remainder of a five-year term, which expires in January 2011.
In his column last week, Prager wrote: "Insofar as a member of Congress taking an oath to serve America and uphold its values is concerned, America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress."

It has caused a national discussion – actually, more hate-filled attacks on me than civil discussion – and has been covered by just about all major American news media. To their credit, CNN and Fox News both gave me ample time (in television terms anyway) to express my views on two of each network's major shows: "Paula Zahn Now" and Headline News on CNN, and "Hannity & Colmes" and "Your World with Neil Cavuto" on Fox News. And many American newspapers have covered it. "

Deuce, I agree. My first reaction to all this was; "if he wants to swear on a Koran in his private ceremony, then fine", but he didn't just do that. He made it a public issue on purpose.
My "track" would have been different than Pragers. In a time of War against Islam extremism it's not wise to have a Muslim in office at all. It's like having a Nazi elected to Congress during WWII. I understand most would disagree with my approach but it goes along with my belief we're engaged in a worldwide conflict against a fascist movement. FDR suspended habeas corpus during WWII. Unfortunately, we have a very weak President, besides I don't relish the idea of an Obama or Clinton having such power.
As such, this has become another example "incrementalism". Right now, we seemed to be doomed to PC incrementalism.
Let me try to be more logical and clear, Deuce.
The "enemy", existing around the world, and within our own borders, is using our love of freedom to wage a war of incremental "invasion" into our public and private systems. Our laws and general nature will not allow us to deny their "intrusion". Our best weapon, in this sense, would be to force the intrusion of our own beliefs into the public and private systems; however, our devotion to "Political Correctness", and indeed, some "law"; halts whatever counter-tactics we use.
Unless our leaders and we begin to take this threat seriously, we will continue to slide into meaninglessness. This "aggression" into our systems would be considerably reduced if we actually fought the W.O.T. instead of talking about fighting it.
I don't believe I'm overstating anything here. I have described it like it is. This doesn't mean I've given up or am purposely being pessimistic.
We need to start moving our butts! I'm "all ears" listening for solutions, and I haven't heard any.
Dennis Prager is, in his own way, attempting to fight the intrusion. I have stated many recommendations here on Observanda myself in an effort to "fight". (the military won't have me anymore)
All I've heard from "conservatives" are reasons why nothing can be done. Liberals want to give the country away, and Libertarians are sore 'cause they're not in power.
We need good leadership quickly, very quickly!

DR, over at the EB has quoted Podhoretz as saying the President has one to two weeks to make a decisive move in Iraq. While I disagree with Podhoretz generally, his take on the essence of time is probably correct.
Certainly, Spengler's judgment is not universally respected, however he is thinking outside the conventional wisdom. If that stimulates likeminded inquiry, leading to substantive action, then, he has rendered a valuable service as a catalyst, at the very least.

lady hawk, it used to be a point of pride to go to France and speak French, wear local clothes and know how to order food and respect the local culture. It was a universal sign of good manners and good citizenship.
that of course was not multi-cultural and diverse.
Now we are besotted with outrageous ill-mannered and ill-bred chauvinists on a global scale.
